``DSSC``: The DEPMOS Sensor with Signal Compression
===================================================
The operation manual can be found on on `DSSC Operation Manual `_.
In particular, there is a page listing the currently available
`gain configuration at SCS `_.
The DSSC detector is one of the three 1 Mpixel 4.5 MHz detector
projects being developed for the XFEL.EU. It is the one specially
dedicated to the detection of soft X-rays, in the range between 0.5
and 6 keV. The detector is developed by a Consortium comprising
DESY, the university of Heidelberg, the Milan Politecnico and the
University of Bergamo, together with XFEL.EU, which takes care of the
detector assembly and integration in the beamline, and of the
calibration.
Two versions of this detector exist, the sensor and the first part of
the front-end electronics being different.
The first detector that will be assembled at XFEL will use arrays of
miniSDD detectors, while a following development foresees the use of
DEPFET sensors.
The DSSC detector will be operated in vacuum, cooled down to -20°C at
the sensor level. The four quadrants will be able to move in vacuum in
both directions perpendicular to the beam. The data taking goes
through the standard train-builder system of XFEL and the triggering
and VETO is done using the standard XFEL hardware for that.
DSSC to sample distances
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Several configuration are possible between the DSSC detector and the FFT
end station. The achievable sample to DSSC distance in each cases is documented
in `alfresco `_.
DSSC Filter
~~~~~~~~~~~
The DSSC detector is equipped with an optical filter with a central hole.
The filter itself is made by Luxel and consists of 200 nm Al on top of 300 nm
LUXFilm Polyimide. The X-ray transmission in the range 300 to 2000 eV is shown
in the following figure:

The support of the filter consists of 4 mm wide horizontal and vertical bars.
At the center, they join in a round 8 mm diameter block with a 4.75 mm diameter
hole in it. The schematic of the filter can be found in the
`Filter aflresco folder `_. The important dimension at the center are shown in the
following figure:

A video of the removal procedure in the filter can be found in
`DSSC filter removel video `_.
Updated installation instructions for the new filter design can be found at
`Installation notes for EXFEL DSSC MOD9A Filter `_.
