FastCCD chiller

The CRYOMECH CP830 cryo-chiller is located near the FastCCD electronics rack. Below are intructions to start ip up and shut it down.

Start up:

FCCD-chiller make sure that the power is connected and the interlock allows the chiller operation (red LED on front panel under interlock connector is on)
FCCD-cryohead check that the two Helium lines are connected both to the chiller body and to the chiller head (on the beamline)
FCCD-cryohead check that the motor power cord is connected both to the chiller body and to the chiller head
FCCD-water-line Turn the cooling water outflow red valve (right of the green valve marked “FastCCD”) anti-clockwise all the way
FCCD-water-line Open the cooling water inflow green valve marked “FastCCD”
FCCD-chiller close the circuit breaker on the chiller front panel
FCCD-chiller press the large green button on the front panel, the button will lighten up
the chiller should make a regular (~1Hz) loud ‘chick’ noise
the FastCCD temperature shoud start decreasing after ~1/2 hour

Potential DANGER with wall water line:

Never close the cooling water outflow red valve while leaving the water cooling inflow green valve open, as this may lead to a water leak in the chiller.

Shutdown:

FCCD-chiller press the large green button on the front panel. The chiller should fall silent and the green light go off
FCCD-chiller lower the circuit breaker on the chiller front panel
FCCD-water-line close the cooling water inflow green water valve marked “FastCCD” on the wall
